BGP
BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) is the protocol used to exchange routing information between different networks on the internet. It enables autonomous systems (AS)—large networks or groups of networks under a common administration—to communicate and determine the best paths for data to travel.
For customers using CoreSite’s Blended IP service, BGP allows:
- Peering with CoreSite routers for optimized routing
- Advertising customer-owned IP prefixes with proper ASN association
- Receiving full internet routes or default routes based on specific needs
CoreSite supports BGP peering with customers utilizing Blended IP circuits
- Customers may request BGP peering with two CoreSite routers per market via a support request ticket
- Customers wishing to advertise a specific IP prefix must own the prefix and have it properly associated with their Autonomous System Number (ASN)
Invalid RPKI routes will be rejected
- Customers advertising a leased subnet must provide SWIP (Shared WHOIS Project), LOA, or RPKI documentation from the original prefix owner
- CoreSite can advertise either
- Full Transit Route
- Default route (0.0.0.0/0)
- CoreSite will honor MED (Multi-Exit Discriminator) and Prepends from Customer
